How 연차 유급휴가 in South Korea is calculated
Article 60 ①: *"사용자는 1년간 80퍼센트 이상 출근한 근로자에게 15일의 유급휴가를 주어야 한다."* — **15 days** after a year in which the worker attended at least 80% of working days. Work-injury leave, maternity leave and parental leave count as attendance.
**The first year runs on a different rule.** A worker with under a year of service — or under 80% attendance — earns **one day for each month of perfect attendance** instead (②). Seven perfect months in the first year is seven days.
**Seniority adds slowly.** From three years of continuous service, ④ adds one day for every two years beyond the first: 16 days at three and four years, 17 at five, and so on until the **25-day cap**, reached at 21 years. Unused leave lapses after a year unless the employer prevented its use. Applies to workplaces of five or more employees.

Frequently asked questions
How much annual leave do you get in Korea in the first year?
One day for each month of perfect attendance, under article 60(2) of the Labor Standards Act, until the first year is complete. Then 15 days.
When does annual leave reach 25 days?
At 21 years of continuous service: 15 days plus one for every two years beyond the first (10 extra days), which is the statutory cap.
Does maternity or parental leave reduce my annual leave?
No. Article 60(6) counts work-injury leave, maternity leave, parental leave and reduced hours for childcare or pregnancy as attendance.
