UAE holiday entitlement calculator (annual leave)

Under article 29 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 a worker is entitled to at least 30 days of fully paid annual leave for each year of service. In the first year the rate is two days for each month once service passes six months, so eleven months gives 22 days; the final part year when you leave is in proportion to the time worked.

How annual leave in UAE is calculated

Article 29(1) gives fully paid annual leave of not less than *thirty days for each year of service*, *two days for each month where service is more than six months and less than a year*, and *leave for the parts of the final year spent at work* where service ends before the balance is used.

**The first-year rate is not a twelfth of thirty.** Two days a month is 24 a year, so a worker on eleven months has **22** days, not the 27.5 a straight pro-rata would give. The full 30 arrive with the first completed year — a six-day jump at month twelve that calculators which simply divide 30 by twelve miss.

**"More than six months" is strict.** At exactly six completed months the first-year rule gives nothing; the seventh month gives 14 days at once. Before that, leave during probation is at the employer’s discretion (art. 29(3)).

**After the first year, a final part year is proportional.** Art. 29(9) pays leave *for the parts of the year in proportion to the time spent at work*, at the basic wage — five months is 30 × 5 ÷ 12 = 12.5 days. Part-time workers take leave by hours actually worked, as set in the contract (art. 29(2)); this page models full-time service.

Frequently asked questions

How many days annual leave do you get in the UAE?

At least 30 days of fully paid leave for each year of service under article 29 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. In the first year it is two days for each month once your service exceeds six months.

Do I get annual leave in my first year in the UAE?

Yes, once your service is more than six months: two days for each month, so seven months gives 14 days and eleven gives 22. Before six months the law grants nothing as of right, though an employer may agree to give leave during probation.

Do public holidays count as annual leave in the UAE?

If an official or agreed holiday falls inside your annual leave it counts as part of it, unless your contract or the employer’s rules give you something better (art. 29(7)).

Can I carry over or cash in unused leave?

An employer may not stop you using accrued leave for more than two years unless you choose to carry it forward or be paid for it under the employer’s rules. When you leave, unused days and the proportion for the final part year are paid at your basic wage (art. 29(8)–(9)).
