Slovak holiday entitlement calculator (dovolenka)
§ 103 of the Zákonník práce sets a basic four weeks, five weeks for anyone who reaches at least 33 years of age by the end of the calendar year or who permanently cares for a child, and eight weeks for teachers, university lecturers and researchers. On a five-day week that is 20, 25 or 40 days.

How dovolenka in Slovakia is calculated
*"Základná výmera dovolenky je najmenej štyri týždne."* Then two steps up, and they are unusually wide. **Five weeks** for anyone who *"do konca príslušného kalendárneho roka dovŕši najmenej 33 rokov veku"* — or who permanently cares for a child, at any age — and **eight weeks** for teachers, university lecturers and researchers. That is a spread of 20 to 40 days on the same five-day week, the widest of any country in this comparison, and the 40 is the largest statutory figure in it.
**Thirty-three is a young age for a statutory step, and the measuring date matters.** § 103(2) asks whether you reach 33 *by the end of the calendar year*, not whether you were 33 when the leave was taken. Someone turning 33 in December has five weeks for that whole year, including the January they spent being 32.
**There are two accrual formulas, and a 60-day gate decides which one you are under.** Above it, § 102 gives *"jedna dvanástina dovolenky za kalendárny rok"* for each full calendar month of continuous employment. Below it — fewer than 60 days actually worked for the same employer in the year — § 101’s entitlement never arises, and § 105 substitutes a different rule: one twelfth per **21 worked days**.
**Those two are not the same quantity, which is the trap.** Fifty worked days spread across five calendar months is two twelfths under § 105, not five. A calculator that pro-rated by months throughout would overpay exactly the seasonal and short-contract workers least able to check the answer — so this page asks for worked days as well as months, and branches where the statute branches.
**Three rules this page states and does not compute.** § 103(2)’s second sentence pro-rates the increase above four weeks for someone who starts or stops caring for a child mid-year, by days of care over days in the year. § 106’s dodatková dovolenka adds a week for named hazardous work. And § 104a changes what a leave day *is* under flexible working time, assessing the employee *"akoby pracoval päť dní v týždni"*.

Frequently asked questions
What if I worked fewer than 60 days this year?
Then § 101’s calendar-year leave does not arise and § 105 applies instead: one twelfth of the annual entitlement for every 21 days actually worked. It is not a pro-rata by months, and for most short contracts it gives less.
Do teachers really get eight weeks?
Yes — § 103(3) sets at least eight weeks for pedagogical and specialist staff, university lecturers, and researchers and artistic staff at public or state universities and named research institutes. On a five-day week that is 40 days.
