How bollo auto in Italy is calculated
The bollo auto is Italy's annual ownership tax, based on engine power in kilowatts and the car's emission class. The common rate is about 2.58 EUR per kW up to 100 kW and 3.87 EUR per kW above, with regions adjusting the figure by up to 10%.
Powerful cars also pay the superbollo: an extra 20 EUR per kW over 185 kW, a national surcharge that regions do not vary. Pick your region from the dropdown — Emilia-Romagna raised every rate by 10% from 1 January 2026, Abruzzo and Campania run up to 3.12 EUR/kW, and Bolzano charges 1.96 for Euro 6 cars.
