How take-home pay in Australia is calculated
Australian income tax for 2026-27 runs 0% up to 18,200 AUD, then 15%, 30%, 37% and 45% across the bands — the lowest rate fell from 16% to 15% on 1 July 2026 and is legislated to fall again to 14% in 2027-28. The 2% Medicare levy applies on top for most earners, shaded in between 28,011 and 35,013 AUD.
Superannuation of 12% is paid by the employer above your salary, not deducted from it. Student-loan (HELP) repayments and the Medicare levy surcharge are optional add-ons. Estimate, not tax advice.
