How trafikkforsikringsavgift in Norway is calculated
Norway abolished the old annual road tax and replaced it with the traffic-insurance fee (trafikkforsikringsavgift), a per-day charge collected via your insurance policy.
From 1 March 2026 the daily rate is 6.52 NOK for petrol and filtered diesel (about 2,380 a year), 8.10 for diesel without a factory particle filter (about 2,957) and 9.16 for electric cars (about 3,343) - so EVs now pay the most, not the least. Light electric vans under 1,785 kg are exempt. Estimate, not tax advice.
