Danish holiday entitlement calculator (ferie)

borger.dk states that you earn 2,08 paid holiday days for each month you are employed, which amounts to 25 feriedage — five weeks — for a full year. The accrual is the same whether you work full time, part time or only a few days a week.

How ferie in Denmark is calculated

*"Du optjener 2,08 dages betalt ferie for hver måned, du er ansat"* and *"Det svarer til, at du optjener 25 feriedage, hvis du er ansat et helt år"*. Five weeks, earned at a flat monthly rate.

**The accrual does not depend on your hours.** borger.dk says so expressly: you earn 2,08 days a month *"uanset om du arbejder fuldtid, deltid eller kun nogle dage om ugen"* — whether you work full time, part time or only a few days a week. That is why this calculator asks for months of employment and nothing else, where most of the others in this comparison need your working week.

**The two published figures do not quite agree, and that is worth saying.** 2,08 × 12 is **24,96**, not 25 — the monthly figure is the annual one rounded to two decimals. Rather than pick one and be wrong at the other end, this page uses the monthly rate for a part year and the stated 25 for a full one, exactly as borger.dk does.

**Denmark runs concurrent holiday.** Under the 2020 Ferielov leave is earned and may be taken in overlapping periods, and the right is to five weeks in total across the holiday period. Where more than four weeks has been earned in a ferieår, up to one week may be carried into the next holiday period.

**Ferietillæg and feriepenge are pay, not days.** They are computed as 12,5% of salary and are a separate question from how many days you hold; this page does not compute them. Collective agreements commonly provide a sixth week.

Frequently asked questions

Hvor mange feriedage optjener jeg?

2,08 feriedage for hver måned du er ansat, uanset om du arbejder fuldtid eller deltid. Det svarer til 25 feriedage — fem uger — hvis du er ansat et helt år.

Does part-time work reduce my holiday accrual?

No. borger.dk states that you earn 2,08 days a month whether you work full time, part time or only a few days a week.

Can I carry holiday over to the next year?

Where you have earned more than four weeks in a ferieår, up to one week may be transferred to the next holiday period.
