Source page: https://valem.run/calculators/south-africa/car-tax

South Africa's annual vehicle licence fee is based on the car's tare weight and set by each province.

## How it is calculated

South Africa's recurring car cost is the annual vehicle licence (the disc), whose fee is based on the car's tare weight and set by each province.

Heavier cars pay more, and late renewal adds penalties. The calculator uses an illustrative Gauteng-style table. Estimate, not advice.

## Worked example

With Tare weight of 1,250, this model computes Annual licence fee of 456 ZAR.

## What this page claims

The Valem engine reproduces this model's formula through 2 self-test cases. That shows internal consistency, not that the formula matches current law; the cited sources are the evidence for that. Estimate, not tax advice.
