Romania's local car tax is a per-200-cm3 amount that steps up with engine size, so bigger engines pay steeply more.

## How it is calculated

Romania levies its annual car tax locally, based purely on engine displacement. The tax is charged per 200 cm3 fraction, and the per-fraction rate steps up sharply with engine size.

A small engine pays 8 RON per fraction, but a 3-litre-plus engine pays 345 RON per fraction, so large cars cost far more. Municipalities index the figures. Estimate, not tax advice.

## Worked example
