# Trafikkforsikringsavgift — Norway car tax

Source page: https://valem.run/calculators/norway/car-tax

Norway replaced its annual road tax with the traffic-insurance fee, collected through your car insurer.

**Tax year:** 2026

## How it is calculated

Norway abolished the old annual road tax and replaced it with the traffic-insurance fee (trafikkforsikringsavgift), a per-day charge collected via your insurance policy.

From 1 March 2026 the daily rate is 6.52 NOK for petrol and filtered diesel (about 2,380 a year), 8.10 for diesel without a factory particle filter (about 2,957) and 9.16 for electric cars (about 3,343) - so EVs now pay the most, not the least. Light electric vans under 1,785 kg are exempt. Estimate, not tax advice.

## Worked example

With Drivstoff of 0, this model computes Årlig avgift of 2,379.80 NOK.
