# Circulation Licence — Malta car tax

Source page: https://valem.run/calculators/malta/car-tax

Malta's annual circulation licence is based on CO2 emissions, with age and fuel adjustments.

**Tax year:** 2026

## How it is calculated

Malta's recurring car charge is the annual circulation licence, based on CO2 emissions plus the car's age and fuel type (a diesel particulate component applies).

The licence rises with emissions and age from a floor around 100 EUR. The calculator uses a CO2 table. Estimate, not tax advice.

## Worked example

With CO₂ emissions of 130, this model computes Annual licence of 140 EUR.

## What this page claims

The Valem engine reproduces this model's formula through 2 self-test cases. That shows internal consistency, not that the formula matches current law; the cited sources are the evidence for that. Estimate, not tax advice.
