# 自動車税 — Japan car tax

Source page: https://valem.run/calculators/japan/car-tax

Japan's annual automobile tax for cars registered from Oct 2019 is set by engine displacement bands.

**Tax year:** 2026

## How it is calculated

Japan's automobile tax (jidosha-zei) is based on engine displacement, from 25,000 JPY for a sub-1.0L car up to 110,000 JPY for the largest engines. Kei (light) cars pay a flat 10,800 JPY.

Cars over 13 years old pay about 15% more. The calculator uses the displacement bands. Estimate, not tax advice.

## Worked example

With 排気量 of 1,496, this model computes 年額 of 30,500 JPY.

## Inputs

| Name | Label | Type |

## What this page claims

The Valem engine reproduces this model's formula through 3 self-test cases. That shows internal consistency, not that the formula matches current law; the cited sources are the evidence for that. Estimate, not tax advice.
