# Motor Tax Calculator Ireland — by CO2

Source page: https://valem.run/calculators/ireland/car-tax

Ireland's annual motor tax for post-2008 cars is set entirely by the car's CO2 emission band.

**Tax year:** 2025

> **Not yet updated for the current tax year.** Ireland’s motor tax rates were reported unchanged for 2026, but the official band table could not be retrieved to check this page’s figures against. Treat the result as indicative.

## How it is calculated

Motor tax in Ireland for cars registered from 2008 is based on CO2 emissions, in bands. A zero-emission car pays 120 EUR a year, rising through the bands to 2,400 EUR for the highest emitters.

Cars registered before 2008 pay by engine size instead. The calculator uses the CO2 table. Estimate, not tax advice.

## Worked example

With CO₂ emissions of 100, this model computes Annual motor tax of 170 EUR.

## What this page claims

The Valem engine reproduces this model's formula through 2 self-test cases. That shows internal consistency, not that the formula matches current law; the cited sources are the evidence for that. Estimate, not tax advice.
