# Urlaubsanspruch Berechnen 2026 — 30 Werktage, Fünf Wochen

Source page: https://valem.run/calculators/austria/holiday-entitlement

§ 2(1) Urlaubsgesetz gives 30 Werktage per working year, which is five calendar weeks — 25 Arbeitstage on a five-day week — rising to 36 Werktage, six weeks, after 25 years’ service with the same employer. Pro-rata applies only in the first six months of your first working year.

**Tax year:** 2026

## How it is calculated

*"Das Urlaubsausmaß beträgt bei einer Dienstzeit von weniger als 25 Jahren 30 Werktage und erhöht sich nach Vollendung des 25. Jahres auf 36 Werktage."* A Werktag is a six-day-week day, so the government’s own business portal states the conversion outright: *"30 Werktagen bei einer Sechs-Tage-Woche ( bzw. 25 Arbeitstagen bei einer Fünf-Tage-Woche ), also von insgesamt fünf Kalenderwochen."* Five weeks either way — and six once the 25-year step is reached.

**§ 2(2) runs against what every other country in this family does, and it is worth knowing about.** *"Der Anspruch auf Urlaub entsteht in den ersten sechs Monaten des ersten Arbeitsjahres im Verhältnis zu der im Arbeitsjahr zurückgelegten Dienstzeit, nach sechs Monaten in voller Höhe. Ab dem zweiten Arbeitsjahr entsteht der gesamte Urlaubsanspruch mit Beginn des Arbeitsjahres."* So pro-rata applies **only** inside the first working year, and only for its first six months. Seven months into your first year: the full 30 Werktage. Two months into your second: also the full 30, not two twelfths of it.

**Which makes the common pro-rata calculator wrong here by a wide margin.** A page that scaled the entitlement by months worked — the right answer in the UK, France and Ireland — would tell an Austrian two months into their second year that they have four days when the law gives them 25. The dates on this page therefore stop changing the answer once you have a year’s service, which is the statute rather than a bug.
